The Background
For the launch of the flexible, foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Series, I wanted to develop a social led activation that had never been done before at scale, bringing together Verizon’s 5G network and the power of Artificial Intelligence. We partnered with multi-platinum hitmaker Timbaland to remix the idea of a typical phone launch. With over 600 new mobile device launches every year, we knew we needed to stand out from the crowd. Specifically, we set out to showcase the versatility and endless possibilities with the Samsung Z series and measured success against share of conversation and engagement on Twitter, the selected platform for the campaign.






The Brief
Create a ‘disruptive’ social concept that enables play, reimagines immersive experiences, and sparks joy. Success is determined by social engagement on Twitter.

The Strategy
Working with my strategy team, we developed the concept “Unfold a new world of possibilities.”

Only Verizon and Samsung can break the constraints of yesterday’s form factors and yesterday’s network, to bring you the new world of possibilities.

Immersive experiences, on exciting new Samsung form factors, powered by the network of tomorrow, Verizon 5G.

The IdeaTo show how the Samsung Galaxy Z Series’ innovative form factor remixes your online life, we had Timbaland, one of music’s most iconic personalities, write an original track composed of compartmentalized loops, designed to be remixed infinitely. We built a music-composing A.I. bot, trained it on Timbaland’s historic biggest hits, and used machine learning to teach it to ingest, interpolate, synthesize, and create. Then, we gave our beat-making sentient bot access to Verizon’s Twitter account, and told it to make some music.

Custom AI Remix + Original Timbaland Track

Everyone got personal shoutouts from Timbaland, custom beats, and location-specific personalized music videos. The algorithm remixed unique tracks for thousands of fans as soon as they retweeted us. Each fan had their own epic drop – bringing Verizon and the Galaxy Z Series to top of mind, and Verizon’s share of conversation to the top of the charts.

All fans had to do was Retweet Verizon’s post and the A.I. would scan their profiles for public data to integrate into a piece of personalized, dynamic content. In reply, each fan got their own custom version of the song in a music video featuring personal shoutouts, bespoke beats, and location-specific callouts.

Fans who retweeted us got their own individual AI-created version of the track – and they didn’t waste any time sharing it across social media.





The Results
It was a truly epic drop – bringing Verizon and Samsung Galaxy Z Series to top of mind, while reimagening the power of Artificial Intelligence and persinalized Music engagement.97% positive sentiment#1 share of conversation for the first 48 hours6,000+ custom remixes99.6% of all mentions on @SamsungMobileUS at launch.

The Background
As 2020 progressed and we saw society being quarantined, we were challenged to reimagine how we approached experiences without being able to physically be there. We approached The Met with a truly a groundbreaking new experience for us to build together from the ground up. We wanted people to experience the magic of being at The Metropolitan Museum of Art while being safe at home without needing to download any apps or even use a computer – they could do all this with their mobile device.











The Met Like You’ve Never Seen It Before

We broke the rules and blurred the line between physical and virtual. We crafted a unique experience that allowed visitors and art enthusiasts to be transported into the heart of the Met and explore it as if they were truly there, without ever leaving their couch.
Leveraging the latest in webAR and immersive 360 environments, we recreated a hyper-realistic, true to scale replica of iconic spaces within the Met and created over 12 never-before-seen galleries where visitors could freely move around,  interact with the art, and learn about art history. We developed 46 interactive challenges that allowed visitors to “un-frame” art and place it in their homes with Augmented Reality. Exclusive pieces of the experience came to life and became interactive over Verizon’s 5G network.

An Experience Treated Like A Work Of Art
We developed a dynamic visual system for the experience and its supportive campaign materials. We used a combination of swiss typography that broke out of the traditional grid alongside a representation of the art itself seen as data visualization. This unexpected branding approach (for a long-standing institution) further emphasized the first-of-its-kind nature of the experience.

Priceless Art In The Streets
We created a “Stay-at-Home Gallery Opening” kit (using The Met’s remnant art crates) for a few friends of the brand and influencers to enjoy the launch of The Met Unframed. We designed official museum plaques and placed them around the city, they launched 5G AR-t that came to life in the streets. Without having any paid media, our street guerilla approach and social outreach garnered earned media and created awareness for the experience.

The Ask

The holidays are the most anticipated time of year, but with that excitement comes the pressure of trying to find the perfect gift for those “challenging” people to shop for. So, how could Verizon mitigate the stress of shopping, while also reminding people that it’s better to give than to receive?






The Solution

Our response to gift-giving woes was to develop a chatbot using AI that turns emojis into gift recommendations. Holiday shoppers could find the perfect holiday gift options by simply describing the person they’re shopping for in 5 emojis 😎🐶📸✈️🎮.
Based on the provided emojis the AI would then ‘guess’ what sort of person was described and recommend the best holiday gifts to match their interests.
We worked with influencers to seed our chatbot, having them use it to get recommendations for their loved ones.

The Ask

Use SXSW as a way to Reestablish Bud Light’s credibility and leadership in the music space by crafting a collaborative, fun and memorable experience where fans can engage with musicians in an innovative and meaningful way.








The Ideation – Bringing Art, Music and Fans Together

Art inspired by Austin and the new Visual Identity meets musicians performing at Bud Light Factory. We created a series of (playable) interactive pieces of musical art which fans engaged with and completely made their own.

The Solution

Interactive music posters were born. These magical paper posters, triggered by touch and the body’s electric current, allowed users to remix music by performers who played on the Bud Light Factory stage.
&#38;nbsp;
The musicians captured the attention of fans, influential music publishers, and showcase performers and gave credibility to the Bud Light’s place in music and the overall experience.
&#38;nbsp;
The interactive music posters became a physical manifestation of our new music platform, utilizing groundbreaking technology to evolve the experience of our fans.



The Production

Just like the creation of music, the conception and construction of the experience was wholly collaborative. We worked with an experiential agency, musicians, visual artists and a technology partner to bring Bud Light’s core creative idea to life.
&#38;nbsp;
Our start-up technology partner invented conductive ink that can be printed on any paper. When touched, the electricity inside the human body sends a signal to a custom designed matchbook-sized circuit mounted on the poster. The circuit connects via Bluetooth to a computer that hosts custom-written software, triggering pre-programmed songs that have been stripped down to their base elements.
&#38;nbsp;
The posters were designed with Bud Light’s custom SXSW artwork to create a new visual identity that fans would connect with – both literally and figuratively. We mapped the conductive ink to the visual touchpoints. This means that when a fan “played” a spot on the wall, he was touching a specific Bud Light icon.

The Consumer Experience

When multiple people simultaneously touch different areas of the interactive music poster, the song elements play in rhythm allowing people with no musical training to live-remix a song together.
&#38;nbsp;
We used Bluetooth headphones to allow users the ability to change between songs and collaborate and remix different samples without interfering with the overall audio effect.
&#38;nbsp;
Fans were blown away by the experience of remixing music from their favorite artists on the posters. The artwork and headphones made the Bud Light Factory the perfect place for selfies. The instant ability to be a DJ meant fans created and shared videos which boosted our social presence.
